Weekly review, done for you in five minutes

The weekly review keeps every other system working, and it’s the first habit people drop. Apply Goaltree’s weekly review playbook to a goal and your coach writes it for you: this week’s wins, what’s overdue or stuck and why, and the top 3 tasks for next week, in order.

01 / What it is

A weekly review is a regular check-in with your own work. David Allen made it a core part of Getting Things Done: once a week, look back at what happened, tie up loose ends and decide what matters next.

Without one, lists go stale and goals drift quietly. With one, small course corrections happen every week instead of every quarter.

When to use it

  • You end the week unsure what you actually got done
  • Tasks sit overdue and nobody decides what to do about them
  • Mondays start with a scramble instead of a plan

How to do it

  1. 01 Look back What got done? Count the wins, even the small ones.
  2. 02 Find what’s stuck What’s overdue or stalled, and what’s blocking it?
  3. 03 Choose next week’s top 3 Pick the few tasks that would make next week a success.
  4. 04 Keep it short A review you do every week beats a perfect one you skip.
02 / Other apps explain it. Goaltree applies it.

How Goaltree applies it

The coach reads the goal’s completed and pending tasks and writes a review in three parts, short enough to read in five minutes.

What your coach does

  • Lists this week’s wins on the goal
  • Flags anything overdue or stuck, and says why
  • Picks the top 3 tasks for next week, in priority order

In the app: Explore → Playbooks → pick a goal.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What should a weekly review include?

Three things: what you finished, what’s stuck and what comes next. The playbook covers all three for the goal you choose.

How long does a weekly review take?

The traditional version takes 30 to 60 minutes. The coach’s version takes about five minutes to read, which leaves your time for deciding rather than collecting.

When should I do my weekly review?

Friday afternoon or Sunday evening works for most people: the week is still fresh and the next one hasn’t started. Pick a time and keep it.
